RCA Priority
Parking, Traffic, and Street Safety
Calmer streets, safer crossings, and balanced parking for residents — neighbors are calling for action on speeding, cut-through traffic, blocked driveways, and parking that keeps emergency vehicles out.
59.1%
of Riverside Terrace neighbors named traffic & street parking a top concern — the fourth highest-ranked issue in the survey
From the question: "What are the most important issues you would like to see addressed in Riverside Terrace?" — 2024 RCA Neighborhood Survey
Why It Matters
Emergency Access
When cars park on both sides of narrow streets, fire trucks and ambulances can't get through — and blocked driveways and hydrants put lives at risk.
Speeding & Cut-Through Traffic
Vehicles racing down residential streets make it dangerous to cross, walk a dog, or let children and elders move safely through the neighborhood.
Parking Pressure
Event and venue overflow fills blocks on weekends and during TSU events, leaving residents and their guests with nowhere to park near home.
Crossing & Pedestrian Safety
Parked cars block sightlines at corners and stop signs, making it hard to see oncoming traffic when backing out or crossing on foot.
Speeding, cut-through traffic, and parking pressure affect children, elders, and everyone walking the neighborhood. Calm, well-managed streets keep emergency access clear, protect people on foot, and let residents enjoy and use their own blocks — something every Riverside Terrace family deserves.
What Neighbors Are Saying
These are neighbors' own words from the 2024 RCA Neighborhood Survey, lightly edited for length and shared anonymously.
"When cars are parked on both sides of the street, there's not enough room for emergency vehicles to get through. Cars coming from opposite directions cause a road block."
"Cars frequently block driveways, making it impossible to navigate the narrow street in front of our home. I fear that emergency vehicles won't be able to get down the street."
"Traffic continuously flies down my street, making it a danger to cross — with or without dogs — and a danger to the neighborhood."
"Cars park in front of our house every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and leave so much trash that I have to clean it off our lawn the next morning. We desperately need permit parking."
"My friends and family often decline coming over for fear of nowhere to park, or the risk of having their car broken into."
"We are applying for permit parking, and it goes to City Council in two weeks."
